Additional Information
The Pulpit Commentary covers every book
of the Bible, with at least three treatments of every verse. For each
biblical chapter, the commentary includes an Exposition, Homiletics, and
various sample Homilies.
- Exposition
Commentary on the passage, with exegetical, interpretive,
theological, historical, and geographical observations. Written by the
author of that volume.
- Homiletics
A guide for preaching or teaching through the passage, with
personal application, devotional insights, and observations about the
rhetorical structure of the passage. Written by the author of that
volume.
- Homilies
Actual sermons from various contributors, covering a couple of
verses or a pericope. Typically, a brief introduction followed by 2-5
"points" with a number of references to other passages that provide
biblical context.
Taken together, the three treatments of
each passage provide a detailed outline of key concepts in the passage,
while imparting a rich sense of biblical context--context of both the
immediate book and the larger themes of Scripture.
Logos Bible Software
Edition
The Pulpit
Commentary set is a standard on the bookshelves of many
students of Scripture, and presents an impressive appearance with its 23
hardcover print volumes. The electronic edition may not lend the same
scholarly aura to your office but it does fit on your laptop so you can
bring it along in your briefcase! And better yet, you don't have to get
out of your chair to pull up insightful commentary on any passage from
any book of the Bible!
The Logos edition can be linked with any
Bible in your system (sold separately) to scroll together, side-by-side
on the screen. As you scroll through the biblical text, or jump to a new
reference, The Pulpit Commentary keeps pace so you never have
to hunt for your place! It also works the other way: scrolling through
the commentary keeps the Bible synchronized.
Biblical references in the Pulpit
text are tagged as hotspots: a single click opens your preferred
Bible version to the verse cited. You can KeyLink on a Greek or Hebrew
lemma cited as an example to go straight to that word's entry in a
lexicon (sold separately).
Perhaps best of all, Passage Guide will
automatically search The Pulpit Commentary alongside your other
commentaries every time you initiate a passage search from the
software's homepage. This makes it easier than you can imagine to glean
valuable insight from a timeless commentary.
Endorsement for the
Print Edition
"I have used the paper version of the
Pulpit Commentary for over 20 years. It is and continues to be my
primary commentary for all my messages. I appreciate its scholarly work
and the simplicity and power of its commentaries. I have also been an
avid user of Logos since its inception and often wished that this
commentary would find its way into the Logos library."
